AirAnswers® Expands Testing Line, Launches New Fungal Pathogens Panel

CHICAGO – (Feb 1, 2022) – AirAnswers®, a revolutionary, first-of-its-kind indoor air quality monitoring system, today announced the introduction of its new Opportunistic Fungal Pathogens (OFP) testing panel. This new panel, the latest innovation in indoor air quality testing from AirAnswers®, is designed to provide detection of a wider range of harmful fungi.

Developed by medical and industry experts, the AirAnswers® system offers the ability to detect a wide spectrum of airborne particulate matter with a testing menu that includes allergens, molds, and viruses including SARS-CoV-2. With the launch of the new Opportunistic Fungal Pathogens panel, AirAnswers® now offers extended detection of fungi of the Aspergillus genus including Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus fumigatus, two species that are known to cause severe illness to immunocompromised populations. The Opportunistic Fungal Pathogen panel also detects the presence of the fungal Mucor genus, encompassing more than 40 species of mold, as well as Candida albicans, a species of yeast that is commonly associated with fungal infections in humans.

“The advanced science of our new Opportunistic Fungal Pathogens panel builds on our original Mold Genera panel, allowing us to provide the right answers to our customers by covering more bases in their indoor air monitoring,” said Dr. James Koziarz Ph.D., CEO of AirAnswers®. “With the launch of this new panel, we are casting a wider net and getting a closer view of the particulate fungal matter, especially Mucor, which isn’t detected in our beta-glucan assay. This panel will help us asses the presence of harmful fungi, which is often a concern for many immunocompromised persons, affecting their comfort and quality of life.”

The AirAnswers® testing system detects the presence of fungi by identifying fungal DNA through qPCR testing. With sampling periods of 24-hours or 5-days, the AirAnswers® testing system offers a variety of air monitoring tests, customizable to fit the needs of the individual client. While the mold panel detects a wide spectrum of molds, the Opportunistic Fungal Pathogen panel fills in more gaps by detecting the presence of Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, and Mucor genera in air samples which are not detected by the Mold Genera panel.
